PartitionMagic 6.0

A tool from PowerQuest, and later Symantec, that enables manipulation of partitions through its own bootable media. PartitionMagic can shrink, grow, or move partitions without the need to backup and restore files in that partition. It supported a variety of file systems, and the core DOS-based parition tool fit on a bootable 1.44mb floppy disk. It was extremely popular, and made installing or removing multiple OSes much easier.

Release notes

ISO image of my french PartitionMagic 6.0 CD. Also includes the BootMagic boot manager.

Again I strongly advise NOT to use it on anything newer than its release date except maybe a virtual machine where you have nothing you mustn't lose, as it may have catastrophic results with whatever it doesn't recognize well.

Installation instructions

The install program should accept any serial that begins with PM600FRCD, you don't even need to put anything after the "-" field separator. The autorun doesn't seem to give the choice of language, but there are directories on the CD for German, English, Spanish, French, Italian and Portuguese The documentation says it runs on Windows 95, 98, ME, NT 4.0 (with Service Pack 4 at least) and 2000 Pro.

Making the rescue disks now requires 2 floppies.

Under Windows 95, requires winsock2 to be installed or you'll get an error message about missing ws2_32.dll ; see the known issues sections in the readme.
