IBM/Lotus SmartSuite is an office suite from Lotus software for Windows and OS/2. SmartSuite includes SmartCenter, 1-2-3, Word Pro, Freelance Graphics, Approach, Organizer, and ScreenCam.
SmartSuite was primarily targeted at corporate use. Its primary advantages were cross platform compatiblity with IBM OS/2, multithreaded 32-bit processing power under OS/2 prior to Windows 95, integration with Notes, and compatiblity with Lotus 1-2-3. It competed heavily against Microsoft Office. In 1995, Microsoft "punished" IBM for selling SmartSuite by withholding OEM Windows 95 licenses from them until the last second.
SmartSuite for OS/2 includes Lotus 1-2-3, AmiPro 3.0, cc:Mail, DataLens for OS/2, and Freelance Graphics.
The major change in Lotus SmartSuite 2.0 was that the Lotus Application Manager was replaced with Lotus SmartCenter.
