XTree is an easy to use text-mode file manager. It pioneered the use of a GUI-like hierarchy tree, and provides many integrated file viewers. It competed against many other file managers including Gazelle Q-DOS and Norton Commander

XTree 1.0 was first released on April 1, 1985 at the West Coast Computer Fair and sold for $39.95. The primary developer was Jeffery C. Johnson, who was working for a company named Executive Systems Inc.
The product pioneered the use a visual directory tree, which appeared in many later file managers.
